Social Distance Slalom

Updated: Jan 8, 2021

Because Slalom Poles Don’t Wear Masks!

A simple premise, but often hilariously executed – get down a course staying at least 2 metres away from every pole.

There are of course, many variations and different constraints you could put on this one. Ideas include:

On a narrow section of river or flow, set the challenge of NOT going through any gates on the way down (stolen from Andy Neave). Limit the number of eddies they can go into, or give them a minimum number of eddies to go into. Limit the number of times they are allowed to cross the flow completely. Get as far away as possible from every gate without scraping the sides/rocks.

My group really enjoyed this one, and I will go back to it again.

Thanks for the credit! Endless possibilities as soon as you give paddlers challenge of NOT going through gates. Try 5 gates in fairly straight line, then set some constraints, or better still get the paddlers to.

e.g. Not going through any gates but passing them LRLRL, then RLRLR - gives option to discuss which works best and why?

Going through 1 or 2 gates only (not consecutive), paddlers have multiple trials to determine best option which can be tested on the clock.
